WHERE SHOULD YOUR THERMOSTAT BE INSTALLED?
WHERE SHOULD YOUR THERMOSTAT BE INSTALLED?
NEVER ON AN EXTERIOR WALL
Exterior walls are subject to the effects of outdoor temperatures. In winter, the wall is cooler and in summer, the wall is warmer. The temperature sensors inside your thermostat will be affected. If the wall is hot because of the summer sun, it could cause your HVAC system to run unnecessarily. The same is true during the winter months but the reverse.
NEVER IN A ROOM WITH EXCESSIVE SUNLIGHT
Installing your thermostat in a room with a large amount of natural sunlight is a bad idea for the same reason as above. Rooms with a large amount of sunlight are typically hotter and could cause your thermostat to be misled.
NEVER IN YOUR HOME’S ENTRYWAY
Opening and closing your door can cause your thermostat to become confused. An open door can create a gust of air (warm or cold) that will rush past your thermostat sensors. It is difficult for your thermostat to register an accurate reading which will lead to inefficient use of your utilities.
STAY CENTRALIZED
The best place for your thermostat to be installed is an interior wall in the center of your home. The optimal height of installation is sixty inches from the floor. Installing your thermostat too high may be out of reach for some family members. In addition, hot air rises and cooler air falls. If your thermostat is installed too high or too low, you may get false readings.
COST SAVINGS
A smart thermostat is more energy efficient and provides your HVAC system with more accurate information and temperature settings. Your HVAC components will work smarter and not harder resulting in reduced wear and tear, ultimately reducing repair costs.

WHAT TYPES OF THERMOSTATS ARE AVAILABLE?
Traditional manual thermostats have basic control to change the temperature settings and are dependent on the user to increase or decrease the temperature.
Programmable thermostats use automation to adjust temperature settings allowing temperatures to fluctuate throughout the day based on outside temperature changes and home occupancy.
Smart thermostats are Wi-Fi enabled thermostats that allow you to control your home’s heating and cooling through your smartphone. Many smart thermostats learn your temperature preferences and establish a schedule that automatically adjusts to energy-saving temperatures when you are asleep or away. Smart thermostats provide equipment use and temperature data you can track and manage.
